July 2017, summer weekend at the the cottage when things and the car took a turn for the worse. Early in the am I was involved in a single car accident returning to the cottage. The cars 911 assist had alerted authorities of air bag deployment. Shocked and confused I was arrested and charged with impaired and over 80. Later that morning we turned to the internet to find a lawyer, having never required one and relying on reviews. We called Aitken Robertson and took advantage of there free call. The call and advice really helped calm our nerves. Living 4 hours from the muskoka’s, Richards team was able to appear on my behalf for my first hearing and set a date for court. I am so thankful I found aitken Robertson. I had never been arrested before and was facing 8 criminal charges. I requested and received a free copy of the *Fight the Charges! A Guide to Common Criminal Charges* book as I was interested in learning a little bit more about how the criminal system in Ontario works. I found this book not only informative, but it was also written in plain language I could understand. The chapter on sentencing was most informative because it broke everything down, until I had read this book I was not aware you could enter a guilty plea but not get a criminal record. I was surprised to see this book was written by the lawyers and staff at Aitken Robertson, including Mr. Aitken himself! This book would definitely be a great starting point for anyone facing criminal charges in Ontario.

In march of 2017 I made an error in judgement.I was given a bottle of single malt scotch out on the ice of lake simcoe. Where do i start! My lawyer was Jordan Tekenos-Levy and right from the first appt he was extremely easy to deal with, non judgemental and confident in his thoughts. When you face a *so called criminal charge* for the first time in your life, believe me it is not easy and you get nervous like hell! On June 7, 2014 I was arrested for care and control violations. Not knowing what to do, having never been in this situation before and being broke I found fightthecharge. In January 2014, after a few too many drinks, I was involved in a one car accident in Oshawa which left my car totalled. I panicked and decided to flee the scene of the accident on foot. Roughly three hours later I was arrested by police and provided a breath sample at the police station. My reading was more than twice the legal limit. I was charged with impaired driving, over 80, failure to remain at the scene of an accident, and failure to report an accident. I've been referring impaired drivers to Aitken Robertson for the past 17 years. If there's a deal to be had with the Crown, they'll get it. That's a result of combining persistence and relentlessness with a volume practice. The Crowns dare not be anything but reasonable with their lawyers and their clients. How do I know this? Before I was exclusively an employment lawyer, I also practiced some criminal law for several years. One day I had the pleasure of having the head Peterborough Crown Attorney threaten to make me a 'eunuch', after I had stood up for a particular client who I felt was being very unfairly treated by the Crown's office. The Crown eventually dropped the charge against my client, but the difficulty for me, I realized, was that as I had a small criminal practice the head Crown could in fact very easily make my life miserable if he chose to. I decided then and there to simply abandon the practice of criminal law. The fact is that one is either entirely 'in' the criminal law business or 'out'. I refused to continue to be involved with or subject to the thuggery of this former Peterborough head Crown Attorney, or his former assistant Crown, who now works as a local solo defence counsel but continues to do the Crown's bidding because he has not the integrity or means by which to escape his masters. If not, in difficult cases the advice you receive will be subtly influenced accordingly. How will you know and recognize this, as a lay person? You won't. You have to make the right decision about who your counsel is going to be from the beginning.
